On January 5th, 2015 at about 6:39 am, a citizen called the City of Hemet Police Dispatch Center to report that someone had just stolen her Dodge Durango from her driveway in the 2000 block of Silverdrop Lane. As Hemet Police Officers were responding to the location, Dispatch broadcasted a description of the vehicle to all other units.

At 6:44 am, a Hemet Police Officer who was preparing to go off duty, spotted the vehicle in the 3100 block of W. Stetson Avenue and attempted to stop it. The suspect initially pulled over but then sped away. A pursuit was initiated and the driver led officers on a short chase through south-western parts of the city at speeds reaching 60 mph.

The pursuit entered the 500 block of Santa Clara Circle where the suspect slowed down and jumped out of the moving vehicle. The suspect fled on foot west through the yards of nearby homes while the vehicle continued north on Santa Clara Circle, where it collided into several fences, mailboxes, and a light pole. The suspect was ultimately located hiding in a yard a few houses away and was taken into custody without incident. The suspect will be transported to the Riverside County Jail.
