On 05-23-2013, at approximately 1:38pm, Hemet Police Officer Matt Gomez observed a red Pontiac Grand Am traveling eastbound on Oakland Avenue at Santa Fe Street. As the vehicle slowed to a stop at the intersection, Officer Gomez observed that the driver's side brake light was not operational. Officer Gomez activated his emergency equipment and conducted a traffic stop in the 400 block of North Santa Fe Street.
Officer Gomez was able to obtain information on the three occupants of the vehicle and conducted a standard records check on each. Officer Gomez was advised that the person occupying the front passenger's seat of the vehicle, Cedric Dempsey, was on active probation in addition to being on PRCS Community Supervision.
During a search of the vehicle, Officer Gomez located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic Glock handgun. A records check of the firearm revealed the weapon had been taken during a residential burglary in Hemet. A black ski mask and fabric gloves were also located.
Cedric Dempsey was charged with PC 496(a)-possession of stolen property, PC 29800(a)-convicted felon in possession of a handgun, and PC 3455(a)-Revocation of PRCS.
