On 02/12/13 at about 8:00pm, Hemet Police Officer Matthew Hiatt was flagged down in the 700 block of E. Florida Avenue, regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle vs. pedestrian.
Initial investigation revealed that a pedestrian was crossing Florida Avenue in the crosswalk (Florida Avenue and Thompson Street) from north to south. A vehicle traveling E/B on Florida Ave. failed to yield to the pedestrian and struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian sustained major trauma and succumbed to his injuries.
Hemet Police Department Traffic Investigators are still investigating and ask witnesses to contact 951 765-3725 or egoodwyn@cityofhemet.org with information. At this time, alcohol or drug use is not suspected.
