[ARCHIVED] Hemet Police Investigate In-Custody Death

Hemet Police In-Custody Death

At about 4:35 AM on Tuesday, 1-22-13, Officers of the Hemet Police Department conducted a vehicle stop in the area of 200 N. Kirby Street for a vehicle lighting violation.

Officers contacted a male driver and female passenger. Officers soon discovered the female had a warrant for her arrest and that the driver was on probation. At this point, both were detained for investigation. Very soon after this, officers noticed that the male was displaying odd behavior, and that he had a substance around his mouth and lips. Believing he had ingested/swallowed illegal drugs, the officers quickly summoned medical aid. Medical aid arrived and the male was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of emergency medical staff, he was later pronounced dead.

The Riverside County Coroner’s office, in conjunction with Hemet Police Investigators, are investigating the death.

Manuel Hyde, 38 years old of Banning and San Jacinto
