On Sunday, 12-09-2012, at approximately 9:50 pm, Hemet Police dispatch received several calls in regard to a motorcycle colliding into a pedestrian in the 400 block W. Florida Avenue.
Hemet PD Officers arrived within minutes and located the pedestrian lying in the eastbound lanes of traffic. Based on the injuries the pedestrian sustained, Hemet PD's Major Accident Investigation Team and Hemet PD's Volunteers were notified and soon arrived on-scene.
The driver of the motorcycle was located near-by. A passenger, who was on the motorcycle, sustained facial injuries and was treated at the scene. The driver of the motorcycle also sustained minor injuries to his face. The pedestrian was transported to Riverside County Regional Medical Center due to severe injuries.
The driver stated he had been drinking alcohol and was subsequently arrested for Driving Under the Influence following the investigation. Witnesses were contacted at the scene. Initial statements indicated the injured pedestrian walked directly into the path of the motorcycle before being struck. The pedestrian is currently in surgery at time of this release.
Arrested was: Robbie Lawson, 55 years old of Hemet.
Florida Avenue was closed for approximately 4 hours between State and Gilbert Streets.
