Community Services Officer
SALARY: $2,894- $3,517 per month, plus excellent benefits package
POSITION: The ideal candidate will be highly-motivated and challenged by fast-paced work involved in a law enforcement agency. Must be detail-oriented, conscientious, fast, and accurate in completing assignments. To excel in this position, this individual must be a proven team player; possess excellent customer service skills and exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Under general supervision, CSO’s perform a wide variety of technical duties in support of police operations and activities. These duties may include taking reports of crimes and accidents from witnesses, victims, and other involved parties; collecting and preserving evidence; enforcing or investigating specified vehicle code, parking, City codes, and business license violations; booking, fingerprinting and transporting prisoners; conducting vacation patrol and commercial security checks; assisting in traffic control; performing dispatch and central reception duties; and other duties as required. This non-sworn class is responsible for non-emergency and non-hazardous civilian law enforcement duties. This position is assigned to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The recruitment is to fill a current vacancy and to create an eligibility list from which to hire for a one-year period.
QUALIFICATIONS: Experience/Education: Any combination of education or training which demonstrates competency in the requisite knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of public contact techniques; data collection, and report writing techniques. Ability to learn and apply department policies, procedures, and regulations; perform civilian patrol duty; dispatch emergency vehicles; use computer equipment; write clear, concise, accurate reports; analyze situations and take quick, effective, reasonable action; follow verbal and written directions; establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; make public presentations.
Special Requirements: Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver license.
Physical Requirements: Ability to operate a motor vehicle; lift and carry moderate weight; climb stairs and ladders; bend; stoop, move about on unimproved land; visually distinguish red, amber, and green as part of normal color vision; hear horns, warning devices, radio transmissions, and frequency changes in the normal audio range; work in adverse weather conditions; coordinate visual and muscular dexterity to operate equipment, keyboard, and business machines; open/close full file cabinet drawers; arrange, retrieve, and replace files; sort papers and documents; sit or stand for extended periods of time; move about the offices and between buildings; and reach above the head.
SELECTION PROCESS: Following review of applications, those candidates whose qualifications best meet the City’s needs will be invited to participate in a written examination. Those who successfully pass the examination will be placed on an eligibility list for a one-year period. Selected candidates on the eligibility list will be contacted to continue with the remaining steps of the selection process. Final selection requires the candidate to pass an extensive background investigation, fingerprints, polygraph, psychological, medical examination which includes drug/alcohol screening, and an interview with the Chief of Police. Candidates must pass each phase of the selection process in order to be eligible to continue to the next phase.
