In January 2021, the State passed legislation to extend the eviction moratorium until June 30, 2021. The legislation prohibits evictions of tenants who have experienced hardship as a result of rent owed due to a COVID-19 related hardship. It also provides a State Rental Assistance Program. To be eligible, the tenant must provide a declaration of hardship according to the legislation's timelines. Rent and mortgage payments are not waived, they are only deferred. Residents should continue to make payments if they can, and should coordinate with their mortgage servicer or property management.
